July 21, Sunday 12:30-4:30

This series is for yoga teachers who desire an enhanced understanding of functional anatomy and how to safely and intelligently apply it to asana guided by yogic principles.
Yoga Alliance CEU credits available on request.

Join us for a friendly and enthusiastic exploration of two of the fundamental bodily systems we work with in yoga asana, culminating in well informed alternatives for hands on and verbal adjustments.  This series is led by Master Yoga Teacher and life-long student of anatomy, Kristina Keller, who can bring these often broad and overwhelming topics together like peanut butter and chocolate.

I.  We will begin by lovingly connecting to the "Sacred Architecture" of human movement, the skeletal system (which is Yin in nature) with special focus on joints.  Going beyond dry academics, your appreciation for this mostly overlooked system will expand, and your consciousness of cuing and continuity can begin to come home in your body in a more vital and useful way, literally laying the foundation for your enhanced understanding of the engines of movement, muscles and their connective tissue.

II.  In the second installment of our series, we will learn to work with the "Fabric of Infinite Potential", the musculoskeletal system (which is Yang in nature), with specific focus on the balance and communication of joints.  We will hone clarity on much more than just the names of superficial muscles and where they are located.  Among other things, we will examine how joints, muscles and connective tissue interface to communicate changes in pressure, balance, gravitational orientation, friction, temperature, compression and weight during different kinds of asana.

III.  In the final session of our offer, "The Anatomy of Adjustments", these elements are "yoked together" and used to harness your physiology to work for you to create useful, confident, and enjoyable adjustments.  We will earn to remember the context of an adjustment, which is the individual student's body, to more fully comprehend the risks and responsibilities associated with powerful tool and, thus practice Ahimsa when employing it.

Some topics that will be covered:
~ When, why and how to touch or NOT to touch
~ Defining the qualities of a "good adjustment"
~ The power of touch to heal and the "quality of touch"
~ Clarifying and cultivating the intention of your "touch" adjustments
